I don’t know if you have ever felt this way, but I sometimes wish my life choices could have been different. When I find myself reflecting on all of those decisions, mistakes, and victories, I start to realize that everything I am is because of every single one of those choices. Whether they were good, bad, or seemingly neutral, they led me to becoming a therapist and that is one of the greatest blessings in my world.
PERSONAL:
I am a wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to a small community of humans that continue to show me grace and love on a daily basis. I have a heart for people who are hurting because I have been there. I have been in the darkest, most awful, lonely places this life has to offer, but I somehow made it out. My hope is to help you find a way out too. I won’t pretend to know about everything you have experienced, but I will absolutely provide you with a non-judgmental space to share those experiences with me. I want to know you and to let you know that sometimes the broken places in each of us are the very things that can become the most beautiful parts of us. I hope you will let me climb down into that pit with you, into all the not so great places, and show you that you are absolutely not alone.
My life journey thus far has been full of so many blessings, but also thwarted with most every obstacle known to man. I was raised by loving parents who are still together after more than 40 years of marriage. I have one older sister and am the baby of the family. I was a “rule follower” during my younger years, and then puberty took over and I became somewhat of rebel. It seems to me now, that I was always searching for something when I was younger, trying to find that ONE thing in this world that could make me feel whole and at peace. It simply never dawned on me that the world couldn’t offer me those kindnesses. I finally realized I was seeking a physical solution to a spiritual problem. This epiphany spurred me on to a spiritual path where I have finally found the peace I so desperately wanted to capture. Peace that comes from a deeply spiritual relationship with my Creator that is not dependent on my circumstances or anything the world throws my way.
I am fortunate to call myself the wife of a man who has stood by me, and I him, for the past 18 years. We went through years of toil to get to the place we are today, trudging through times of heartache, illness, loss, and devastation. During those times of troubled waters, it sometimes took a tremendous effort to remain together, but our shared faith has been a constant anchor, ever mooring us to one another. Now we are able to bask in the joy of parenthood, love, laughter, and support as partners in this life. We have faced all of our demons together and have come out on the other side, stronger and more resilient as a result. We have a beautiful son who is 15 years old and he is the absolute joy of my life and I am so grateful to be his mother. I can’t believe God has blessed me with such an incredible kiddo and I cannot wait to see what he chooses to become in this world.
I have an insanely supportive, loving, and crazy group of friends that literally are my tribe. I didn’t find them until later on in life, but it was so worth the wait. They spur me on when I feel weak and bring me joy when I feel sad. I simply would not be who I am today without them and I am so honored to call them my friends.
PROFESSIONAL:
Professionally, I am an extremely laidback person who enjoys getting to know other humans. I do not consider myself the expert in my counseling relationships, because my clients are the experts in their own lives. I merely exist to help you grow your strengths and accept the traits that you may view as weaknesses. I genuinely love people and want to see all of them lead fulfilling lives, full of peace and happiness, but I know life isn’t always sunshine and rainbows. That is why I am here for you and hope that you will grant me the privilege of witnessing your own personal revolution.
I earned a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The University of North Texas, a CACREP accredited program, in August of 2016. After graduating, I facilitated more than 3,000 hours of individual therapy and group therapy sessions. I have been a practitioner for seven years and am a Licensed Professional Counselor as well as a National Certified Counselor. I have worked extensively with clients who have experienced trauma, as well as with those who have suffered in silence with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I love working with shame and all things Dr. Brene Brown (she is a genius). While I have several areas of interest, my main focus has been on treating individuals who are suffering from addiction, depression and anxiety. I am constantly striving to obtain more and more knowledge and experience so I can continue to grow alongside each of my clients.
Hopefully that gives you some insight into who I am. If you feel alone or overwhelmed right now, please know I am here for you. I know we can find a way out of whatever pit you find yourself in.
I look forward to seeing you in session.
