Trauma

Trauma is any emotional response to a terrible/tragic event.

According to the American Psychological Association, events that potentially cause a traumatic response, include an attack, an accident, a rape or some type of natural disaster. Common immediate symptoms of a traumatic response include shock and denial. Longer term reactions can include unpredictable emotions, flashbacks, strained relationships and even physical symptoms like headaches and/or nausea.

a. How We Treat Trauma:

We employ Trauma-focused Psychotherapy for the treatment of anyone suffering with symptoms of trauma. Trauma focused means the therapist will aid an individual in processing the memories and feelings directly related to the triggering event. In addition, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is used to help an individual change the unhelpful thoughts regarding the triggering event.
